Hello! I'm Michael Stephens, and welcome to Room 16's Team Gecko web site. I've been working hard to make this web site a great
resource for my students and their families. This is my 3rd year teaching 4th grade at Powell Valley Elementary School in Gresham, Oregon.
Fourth grade is a very exciting year for all of my students. We get to explore so much this year, including: the journey of Lewis and Clark's Corp of Discovery, the founding of Oregon, Pioneer Life,

News from Room 16
1/29/10: This week we worked very hard on the Oregon State Writing Test. A little under 1/2 of the students have finished, with more finishing up their
final draft. This is the pinnacle of all of the hard work that my students have done this year. They are tasked with creating a piece of writing
from either the Imaginative, Expository, or the Personal Narrative genre. They must do every step of the writing process independently. I just get
to cheer them on while they do it.
Today I threw down the proverbial gauntlet. I'll be running the pacer with my class this year. I have about 6 weeks to get myself prepared to run
laps in the gym. I can do it, and the kids can't wait to do it with me. GET TO PRACTICING!
We're continuing to work on our Human Body unit in Science. Check off Skeletal, Muscular, Nervous, and Digestive systems. Circulatory and Respiratory are next week!
We also finished up reading Boy in the Girls' Bathroom as a class. What a great story that was, now, for the writing assignment to go with it.
